Classical Pilates

"Not mind or body, but mind and body."
- Joseph Pilates

My Approach

As both a therapist and an athlete, I understand the importance of listening to and honouring the body's wisdom. Combining my formal training in Classical Pilates and Somatic Experiencing, I have developed a deep appreciation for how movement, awareness, and nervous system regulation contribute to overall wellbeing. I am excited to now integrate these principles into my work as a Pilates instructor.

I bring a supportive, client-centred approach to my work, helping clients build strength, confidence, balance, and a deeper connection to their bodies. Whether you are new to Pilates, recovering from an injury, post pregnancy, or looking to deepen your existing practice, I strive to create an environment that feels both grounded and empowering.

Credentials & Training

I am currently completing the Full Comprehensive Classical Pilates Program at Equinox in London UK, a 450-hour year-long intensive apprenticeship rooted in the original teachings of Joseph Pilates. The program provides in-depth training in the Classical Pilates system, including its practical application, underlying theory, anatomy, and the skills required to become a knowledgeable and effective instructor.

Outside of this program, I am a passionate believer in the value of ongoing professional development. I have participated in the following workshops:

Why Classical Pilates

Think of Classical Pilates as the original recipe, crafted by Joseph Pilates. It is designed to strengthen the body from the inside out. Every exercise has a purpose, every movement builds on the next, and the entire system works together to create a stronger, more balanced body.

Unlike workouts that focus on isolated muscles, Classical Pilates trains your whole body to move efficiently and with control. You'll build core strength, improve posture, increase flexibility, and develop greater body awareness, all while moving with precision and flow.

The beauty of Classical Pilates is that it meets you where you are. Whether you're brand new to Pilates or looking to deepen your practice, the method can be adapted to support your individual goals.

Many clients are surprised by how challenging and rewarding the work can be. You may not leave drenched in sweat, but you'll leave feeling taller, stronger, more connected, and moving better in everyday life.

Classical Pilates isn't just exercise. It's a movement system designed to help you feel your best for years to come.

Six Core Principles of Classical Pilates

Centering

Bringing focus and initiation of energy to a center point. In the human body, this is the core. Joseph Pilates called this core the “Powerhouse”. The Powerhouse includes the abdominals, back muscles, glutes, inner thighs, and hamstrings. When all these are engaged and movement occurs, there is complete control from this center.

Precision

Bringing focus and initiation of energy to a center point. In the human body, this is the core. Joseph Pilates called this core the “Powerhouse”. The Powerhouse includes the abdominals, back muscles, glutes, inner thighs, and hamstrings. When all these are engaged and movement occurs, there is complete control from this center.

Concentration

Focusing the mind on the precision of physical movement. Full concentration and being present in the moment is a requirement of Pilates. Romana Kryzanowska believed that the five faculties of the mind are required to perform Pilates properly: intelligence, intuition, imagination, will, and memory.

Breath

Breath fuels the body and powers muscular contraction and power. Use inhalation and exhalation to fully execute movements and facilitate deeper connections.

Control

The original name of what we now know as Pilates was “Contrology”, the art of control. It only became known as Pilates after the death of Joseph Pilates. The mind must control the body and all its movements, especially against gravity. In order to have control, one must have concentration.

Flow

The Pilates workout includes a succession of exercises executed in a rhythmic flow. Minimal movement for maximum flow!
